Dental crown treatment: what’s involved?

The first step of your dental crown procedure will ensure that the remaining tooth structure is healthy and that a stable foundation is established. This can involve placing a filling to help stabilise the tooth’s foundation. Your tooth will then be carefully reshaped, to ensure that its dimensions can hold a crown whilst matching your smile. In most cases, we will take a digital scan of the prepared tooth. Digital technology not only provides for a more comfortable patient journey but can be used to create exceptionally accurate crowns, for better longevity.

The scan is then sent digitally to a state-of-the-art laboratory, where a close team of technicians use sophisticated computers to design your custom crown. The crown is then crafted and coloured to match your teeth. Dental crown treatment is usually provided over 2 visits. After the tooth is prepared and the digital scan is taken, we will create a temporary crown for you to wear to protect the tooth for around 2 weeks. This gives enough time for the creation of your new crown.
